Bihar Language of Laws Act, 1955

(Bihar Act 23 of 1955)

    An Act to prescribe the Language of Laws in the State of Bihar.

    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Bihar in the Sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows-

1. Short title, extent and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Bihar Language of Laws Act, 1955.

(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Bihar.

(3) It shall came into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint, and different dates may be appointed for different provisions.

2. Language to be used in Bills etc. - The language to be used in -

(a) All Bills to be introduced or amendments there to be moved in either House of the Legislature of the State;

(b) All Acts passed by the State Legislature;

(c) all Ordinances promulgated under Article 213 of the Constitution; and

(d) all orders, rules, regulations and bye-laws issued by the State Government under the Constitution or under any law made before or after the commencement of the Constitution;

    shall be Hindi in 'Devangari' script;

    Provided that Bills introduced prior to the commencement of clause (a) may be passed as Acts by the State Legislature in the English language
