Bihar Act 39 of 1950

    An Act to provide for the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as the language to be used for the official purposes of the State of Bihar.

    Where, it is expedient to provide for the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as the language to be used for the official purpose of the State of Bihar;

It is hereby enacted as follows:-

1. Short title, extent and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Bihar Official language Act, 1950.

(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Bihar.

(3) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification appoint and different dates may be appointed for different official purposes of Bihar:

    Provided that the date or dates appointed by the State Government under this sub-section in respect of any of the parts of the State should not be later than [ten] years from the date on which the Act with the assent thereto of the competent authority is first published in the Official Gazette.

2. Official language. - Subject to the provisions of Articles 346, 347 and 318 of the Constitution of India, the language to be used for the official purposes of the State shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.
