THE INDIAN REGISTRATION (WEST BENGAL AMENDMENT) ACT, 1950

West Bengal Act XXIX of 1950

    An Act further to amend the Indian Registration Act, 1908, in its application to West Bengal.

    Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Indian Registration Act, 1908 in its application to West Bengal for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter appearing;

    It is hereby enacted as follows :-

1. Short title and extent. - (1) This Act may be called the Indian Registration (West Bengal Amendment) Act, 1950.

(2) It extends to the whole of West Bengal.

2. Application of Act. - The Indian Registration Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), shall, in its application to West Bengal, be further amended for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter provided.

3. Insertion of new section 55A in Act 16 of 1908. - After section 55 of the said Act the following new section shall be inserted, namely :-

"55A. Photographic copies of books and indexes to be as good as original books and indexes in certain cases. - Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, copies made by photography of any of the books mentioned in sub-section (1) of section 51, and of any of the indexes mentioned in section 55, relating to documents registered on or before the 14th day of August, 1947 in registration offices situate in districts or sub-districts which as a result of the award of the Boundary Commission appointed under section 3 of the Indian Independence Act, 1947 have fallen partly within West Bengal and partly within East Bengal, shall for the purposes of this Act be deemed to have taken the place of and to be the original books and indexes from which such copies were made and all references in this Act to books and indexes shall be construed as including references to such copies.".
