Section 196 - Using evidence known to be false

Whoever corruptly uses or attempts to use as true or genuine evidence any evidence which he knows to be false or fabricated, shall be punished in the same manner as if he gave or fabricated false evidence. 1. The words" or before a Military Court of Request" were omitted by the Cantonments Act, 1889 (13 of 1889 ). 2. Subs. by the A. O. 1948, for" by the law of British India or England". 3. Subs. by Act 3 of 1951, s. 3 and Sch., for" the States". 4. Subs. by Act 26 of 1955, s. 117 and Sch., for" transportation for life". 5. Subs. by s. 117 and Sch., ibid., for" such transportation".
