The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Traditional Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy between India and Mauritius. 

The MoU will enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of traditional medicine including medicinal plants. This will be of immense importance to both countries, considering their shared cultural heritage. 

Both India and Mauritius share several cultural, historical, linguistic and literary similarities. Traditional medicine including medicinal plants are promising areas which need to be further explored and can prove to be mutually beneficial to the people of the two countries. 

The financial resources necessary to conduct research, training courses, conferences/ meetings and deputations of experts will be met from the existing allocated budget and existing plan schemes of the Ministry of AYUSH. 

Background: 

India has well-developed systems of traditional medicine, including medicinal plants which have potential in the global health scenario. The Government of Mauritius also has a long history of traditional medicine in common with India. Both countries share a common culture with respect to the Ayurvedic System of Medicine. Moreover, there are a large number of medicinal plants, particularly those found in the tropical region. These are common to the two countries given similar geo-climatic factors. 

The Ministry of AYUSH as a part of its mandate to propagate Indian Systems of Medicine globally has entered into MoUs with the People's Republic of China, Malaysia, Trinidad & Tobago, Hungary, Bangladesh and Nepal. 

 

प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्‍द्र मोदी की अध्‍यक्षता में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने आज भारत और मॉरीशस के बीच औषधि और होम्योपैथी की पारंपरिक प्रणालियों में सहयोग पर समझौता ज्ञापन (एमओयू) को मंजूरी दे दी। 

यह समझौता ज्ञापन चिकित्सकीय पौधों समेत पारंपरिक औषधि के क्षेत्रों में दोनों देशों के बीच द्विपक्षीय सहयोग को बढ़ावा देगा। यह उनके साझा सांस्कृतिक विरासत को देखते हुए दोनों देशों के लिए बेहद महत्वपूर्ण होगा। 

भारत और मॉरीशस दोनों के बीच सांस्कृतिक, ऐतिहासिक, भाषाई और साहित्यिक समानताएं हैं। चिकित्सकीय पौधों समेत पारंपरिक औषधि संभावनाओं वाले क्षेत्र हैं जिनके और दोहन किए जाने की जरूरत है तथा ये दोनों देशों के लोगों के लिए पारस्परिक रुप से लाभदायक हो सकते हैं। 

अनुसंधान, प्रशिक्षण पाठ्यक्रमों, सम्मेलनों, बैठकों और विशेषज्ञों की नियुक्तियों के संचालन के लिए आवश्यक वित्तीय संसाधनों की पूर्ति मौजूदा आवंटित बजट और आयुष मंत्रालय की वर्तमान योजनाओं से की जाएगी।
